Custom Roll Labels: Application Specifications
Prepare roll-label specifications that fit your applicator, artwork versions, and production workflow.

Start with the application equipment
Custom roll labels need to fit the process that applies them. If you use a labeling machine, request its label requirements from the operator or equipment supplier. Include the container sample and current roll where possible. For hand application, describe how the rolls are handled and how many designs your team uses.
Record the roll and label requirements
The finished label dimensions are only part of the specification. Core size, maximum outside roll diameter, unwind direction, spacing, and liner requirements can matter to an applicator. Supply a diagram or an approved existing roll specification rather than relying on an unexplained direction number.
Check the label on the actual package
Review fit, placement, and how the label releases and applies in the intended workflow. The surface and conditions during application matter as well as the finished appearance. Discuss a trial or sample review when moving a new construction onto an existing line.
Keep artwork versions and rolls identifiable
List each product, quantity, and artwork filename. Identify any batch or version information your team needs on the roll records. Save the approved production specification alongside the final artwork, so a repeat order does not depend on reconstructing the details from an old email.
A useful roll-label brief includes
- Finished label dimensions and shape
- Container sample and application method
- Core size and maximum roll diameter
- Unwind diagram and any gap or liner requirements
- Quantity per design and artwork version
- Delivery date and destination ZIP code
Frequently asked questions
Is label size enough to order machine-applied labels?
No. Include the applicator’s roll and material requirements as well as label dimensions.
Can we send an existing roll?
An existing roll is a useful reference. Include any specification sheet and identify what should change.
Should we assume all printers use the same unwind numbering?
Send a diagram showing how the label needs to leave the roll so the required orientation is clear.
Ready to plan the next run?
Send your current sample or artwork, quantities, and delivery requirements. Pacer Packaging is based in Simi Valley, California. Include your delivery ZIP code so our team can review the project and shipping requirements.
