Folding cartons · Packaging buyer’s guide
When cartons will run on a packing line, the co-packer’s machine requirements belong in the brief before artwork approval. A carton that assembles well by hand may not feed or close correctly on that equipment.

The short answer
Machine suitability is a line-specific approval. Feed, erection, loading, closing, and flat-carton supply requirements should be agreed with the operator. Use a documented trial where needed instead of treating the carton style name as proof of compatibility.
What to review before approving production
Ask for the line’s approved carton specification and a trial plan. Review loading direction, closure style, glue areas, and the way flat cartons are supplied. Treat a successful line trial as a project milestone rather than relying on a general statement that a carton is machine compatible.
Build a practical project brief
- Machine-approved structural specification
- Loading direction and closure method
- Flat-carton delivery and packing requirements
- Trial quantity, approver, and acceptance record
