Folding cartons · Packaging buyer’s guide
Cracked print or coating along a fold can change the appearance of a retail carton. Review heavily printed fold areas early, especially when the design places dark solids or decorative finishes across scores.

The short answer
A score creates the intended folding line. Inspect print and coatings where that line bends, especially under dark solids. A flat proof can establish artwork placement but cannot show how the finished scored material will look after folding.
What to review before approving production
Evaluate a folded production-representative sample rather than just a flat sheet. Board, grain direction, scoring, coatings, and handling can all influence the result. Agree the visual acceptance standard and check it before the full run is packed.

- Artwork across fold lines
- Proposed board and decorative finish
- Folded sample under agreed viewing conditions
- Acceptance standard for visible cracking
