Mylar bags · Packaging buyer’s guide
The opening feature should suit both the first opening and repeated use. A tear notch and a reclosable zipper serve different purposes, and both need space in the pouch design.

The short answer
The first-opening feature and reclosure are separate design decisions. A tear notch helps initiate opening; a zipper provides the intended reclosure mechanism. Check the actual tear path, accessible mouth, and filled-product interaction before artwork approval.
What to review before approving production
Check the seal, tear path, and usable mouth opening on a filled sample. Review whether the product interferes with reclosure and whether consumers can reach the contents comfortably. A zipper is not a substitute for validating the initial seal or overall barrier performance.
Build a practical project brief
- First-opening and reclosure requirements
- Filled-product access and pour behavior
- Seal and zipper positions on the template
- User trial with representative contents
